Big Brother Canada is axed after 12 years on the air.

Big Brother Canada has been axed after 12 seasons, it has been announced.

News of the show's demise comes weeks after broadcaster Global sparked much speculation by removing it from the 2024-25 schedule, two months after the 12th season wrapped.

A statement on the show's official X account said: "To our BBCAN Fam, It's the end of an era as we say goodbye after 12 incredible seasons.

"Season after season, each group of Houseguests delivered their own unique dynamic and iconic moments that we will never forget. But most of all, we are so thankful to have been able to go on this journey with you, the incredible Big Brother Canada fans. THANK YOU for 12 beautiful seasons."

Troy Reeb, co-CEO of Corus Entertainment, said: "Today, as we say goodbye to the beloved series, we celebrate the great success and impact Big Brother Canada has had in our country and in the Canadian media landscape for over a decade.

"Global will always be proud to have been home to Big Brother Canada for 12 seasons, and we are grateful to our partners at Banijay Rights for their support and guidance and Insight Productions for their passion, dedication and creativity.

"We would like to thank executive producer Erin Brock and host and executive producer Arisa Cox for always leading thought-provoking conversations, telling uniquely Canadian stories and reflecting the diverse culture of Canada in one of television's biggest social experiments. This series, and the production team behind it, have truly set the bar in creating entertaining unscripted television.

"And finally, to our #BBCAN fanbase, you have all kept the series thriving, and we thank you for joining us on this journey for the last 12 seasons."

An online fan petition to save the show has so far reached almost 8,000 signatures.
