Spoiler warning: This article contains details about the premiere episode of Big Brother which some readers may wish to avoid.
The new season of Big Brother has premiered on Seven, culminating with the first eviction of the series.
The first batch of 12 housemates entered the iconic compound one by one after a meet and greet with host Sonia Kruger, starting with 21-year-old YouTuber Kieran Davidson, who was given his own secret mission.
BB informed him that every time a new housemate joined the group, he would have to give each of them a high five, a massage and a nickname. If he succeeded, he would win access to the bedroom for the group but failure would mean them spending their first night outdoors.
Among the contestants entering the house on the first night were 6'7" former AFL star Daniel Gorringe, ruthless salesman Allan Liang, introverted country boy Ian Joass and feisty mum-of-two Angela Clancy.
Kieran passed his secret mission with flying colours, giving the group access to the bedroom - but Daniel ruffled feathers on the first night with his bombastic snoring.
On day two the housemates faced their first nominations challenge, which involved them rocking back and forth on swings while attempting to balance five balls on a shelf.
Laura Kaiviti, a 25-year-old dance teacher, was on the cusp of victory with just one ball left to place when Talia Rycroft-Sommavira, a trade assistant from Adelaide, came from behind to pip her to the post.
Later Talia was summoned by BB to nominate three of the group for eviction and she chose Laura, Kieran and 39-year-old Zoe George, a "mum of many talents".
Kieran was left convinced that his dream of appearing on the show would be cut short at the first hurdle, but after the first voting ceremony in the eviction room, it was Laura who was shown her cards with six votes to Zoe's three and Kieran's two.
"It would have been nicer to last longer, of course," she said after leaving the house. "But I like to be first at everything so there we go, first evicted!"
Big Brother continues Tuesday and Wednesday on Seven.
