It's A Sin propels All 4 to record figures

The launch of Russell T Davies's acclaimed drama It's A Sin helps All 4 to its best month on record.

Channel 4 has reported record viewing figures for its on-demand service All 4 thanks to the launch of acclaimed drama It's A Sin.

The five-episode miniseries from Russell T Davies follows a group of young friends living through the HIV and AIDS crisis of the 1980s and has received universal praise from critics and viewers alike.

The first episode aired on Channel 4 on Friday, January 22, with the rest of the series being made available on All 4 immediately afterwards - and within days, the show had become All 4's most binged new series ever.

In figures published today, the broadcaster reported receiving over 6.5 million requests for the show since it launched, helping All 4's total views for January to rise 91% year on year.

Including TV and catch-up viewing, meanwhile, It's A Sin episode one has now consolidated to an impressive 3.3 million viewers.

"The extraordinary performance of It's A Sin is a reminder that powerful drama with something important to say about the world can also be commercially successful," said Ian Katz, Channel 4's chief content officer.

"It has also demonstrated how our strategy of box-setting shows on All 4 can bring a greater combined linear and digital audience to a show than a traditional release pattern.

"It's been a key driver of All 4 viewing in a month that has seen our digital viewing on our own platforms up by more than 90% compared to the same period last year."

It's A Sin will make its Stateside debut on HBO Max later this month.
