ITV has confirmed that its major new streaming service ITVX will go live on December 8.
The launch of the ad-supported free service marks a significant change in strategy for the broadcaster, which will premiere many shows in full via ITVX several months before they air on linear TV.
ITVX will boast more than 10,000 hours of content at launch, including over 250 films, as well as multiple 'FAST' streaming channels themed around certain genres and specific programmes.
The December 8 launch comes several weeks later than initially planned, with ITV having previously indicated that it hoped to have the service up and running in time for the start of the World Cup this month.
"We're really excited to launch ITVX, with more content available than ever before, and a whole range of exclusive commissions," said ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall.
"ITVX is powered by a significant, streaming-first commissioning budget, and an integrated technology and data platform providing a high quality, and more personalised viewing and advertising experience, that will continue to evolve in 2023 and beyond."
ITV has also announced premiere dates for several new shows via ITVX, with teen drama Tell Me Everything, cold war drama A Spy Among Friends, period piece The Confessions of Frannie Langton and feature-length finale Plebs: Soldiers of Rome all available on launch day.
David Tennant's Litvinenko will premiere on December 15, followed a week later by family drama Riches and natural history documentary A Year On Planet Earth, narrated by Stephen Fry.
Thriller Without Sin, starring Vicky McClure, and new reality show Loaded In Paradise will debut on December 28, with Russell T Davies's Crossroads drama Nolly following on in the New Year.
