Nicky Morgan in line to become BBC chair?

Baroness Nicky Morgan reportedly emerges as a frontrunner to become the BBC's new chairperson when the role is vacated next February.

Baroness Nicky Morgan has reportedly emerged as a frontrunner to become the BBC's new chairperson next year.

Culture secretary Oliver Dowden is currently considering who will succeed David Clementi in the role when his five-year term comes to an end in February.

According to The Telegraph, his predecessor Morgan is high on the list, while former home secretary Amber Rudd and respected political broadcaster Andrew Neil are also in the frame.

The next BBC chair will arrive at a crucial time for the corporation, with the future of its funding via the licence fee facing its toughest test in almost 100 years.

As well as a new chair, the BBC is also getting a new Director-General, with Tim Davie due to replace Tony Hall in the coming weeks.
