Sky Arts lands channel 11 slot on Freeview

Phil Edgar-Jones reveals that Sky Arts will launch on Freeview channel 11 next month.

Sky Arts head Phil Edgar-Jones has revealed that the channel will launch on Freeview channel 11 next month.

Last month Sky revealed plans to make the channel free-to-air and significantly expand its reach by launching on Freeview.

Speaking in a virtual session at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Edgar-Jones confirmed the plum slot on Freeview and also revealed the launch date as Thursday, September 17.

Channel 11 is currently occupied by Sky's 'Pick' channel, which is expected to move to channel 34 - currently the home of ITV's placeholder channel Merit - while it will also be available via Freesat on channel 147.

Sky Arts has also announced a raft of programming including monthly talkshow Sky Arts Late, Danny Dyer on Harold Pinter and a unique live theatre event linking the two halves of new Sky Atlantic drama The Third Day.
