Sky launches a new "Ultrafast Plus" broadband service with a guaranteed 500Mb/s speed average.

Sky has launched what it claims will be the fastest speed guarantee of any major broadband provider with a new 500Mb/s service.

Called Ultrafast Plus, the new package is available from today for new and existing Sky Broadband customers living in a property served by FTTP (Fibre To The Premises).

Up until now Sky's top broadband package has been Ultrafast, which offers on average a 145Mb/s service, and the launch of Ultrafast Plus will see Sky compete with Virgin Media in the 500Mb/s market.

As part of an Ultrafast Plus contract, Sky promises an average speed of 500 Mb/s and will compensate customers with a month's free service if the speed falls below the minimum guarantee of 400 Mb/s.

"Today's Ultrafast Plus launch reflects our commitment to providing customers with the fastest and most reliable broadband speeds possible," said Aman Bhatti, director of propositions at Sky Broadband.

"This is why Ultrafast Plus comes with the UK's fastest Speed Guarantee, so our customers can game, stream, download and work from home seamlessly."

Ultrafast Plus, which has no monthly usage cap, is available for £45/month on an 18-month contract.
