Sky inks a deal in Italy giving customers access to DAZN's coverage of top-flight Serie A football.

Sky Italia has secured an agreement with streaming broadcaster DAZN to provide its customers with coverage of the new Serie A season.

DAZN is taking over from Sky as the main domestic broadcaster of the Serie A starting from this season, having gained the rights to seven of the 10 weekly matches.

Sky customers had faced the prospect of using another device to watch DAZN but now the two companies have inked an 11th-hour agreement that will see the DAZN app launch on Sky Q, in addition to a linear station - ZONA DAZN - joining the service on channel 214 from August 8.

Andrea Duilio, CEO of Sky Italia, said: "Sky has always wanted to support the passion of the many Italians who love football and sport in general.

"This agreement with DAZN creates an extra opportunity for fans to enjoy the Serie A to the fullest. In addition to the 3 Serie A matches per round broadcast on Sky channels, the DAZN app will be available on Sky Q... and whoever wants it can also add the option of linear channels via satellite or digital terrestrial.

"This is a decisive step forward so that Serie A can be enjoyed on multiple platforms and can enjoy greater visibility."

The new Serie A season begins on Saturday, August 13 with defending champions AC Milan welcoming Udinese to San Siro.
