Charles Lawson has suggested that he could reprise his role as Jim McDonald on Coronation Street before the year is out.

Jim was a staple on the cobbles in the '90s, appearing continuously between 1989 and 2000, and since then he has returned for several guest stints - most recently in 2018.

Lawson has always left the door open to a potential future return - and in a new interview with the Daily Star, he reveals that he has recently held talks about a comeback.

"In six months' time there might just be a gasp, the cameras cut to the door in the Rovers Return and there's your man," he told the newspaper.

"The last time I was on was three years ago, but wokeness has become a pain in the arse, and the question is, 'Where would Jim McDonald fit in?'

"I've spoken to (director) Ian (Bevitt), and Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald) and they think Jim's return could bring something.

"It's to be hoped the writers aren't into all this politically correct nonsense and they can see a place for Jim. I'm definitely up for it."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
