Chris Gascoyne says that he is "delighted" with Peter Barlow's upcoming departure storyline in Coronation Street.

Chris Gascoyne has revealed that he is "delighted" how his upcoming exit from Coronation Street will play out.

Peter Barlow will be departing the cobbles in the coming months after Gascoyne decided to quit the role - and the wheels were set in motion on Friday night when Peter ran over and killed murderer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).

In Monday night's episode, Peter was arrested on suspicion of deliberately killing Stephen, and in the next few weeks viewers will see Peter struggling to come to terms with taking his life.

Talking about the storyline and how it might lead to Peter leaving the cobbles, Gascoyne said: "Well he has just killed someone so there are so many storylines that can come out of that and so many reasons that he might not be around any more.

"All I will say is I am delighted with my exit storyline, the scripts are superb and I can't wait to see the reaction to how Peter leaves the street."

"It just came together at the right time," he continued. "I've learned a bit more about Peter than I knew before.

"The more that I know, the more that I see this side of him the more I like him. He's got a lot of depth and it has been great to explore that."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
