Coronation Street legend Sue Nicholls has agreed a new deal to remain as Audrey Roberts on the cobbles for at least another year.
The 80-year-old actress joined the soap in 1979 and has been a continuous regular cast member since 1985 as the grand-matriarch of the Platt family.
Audrey remains central to some of the show's biggest storylines even 45 years down the line and in recent years has been involved in plots including her shock suicide attempt and the killing spree of her son Stephen (Todd Boyce).
Corrie has a long-standing policy of offering only 12-month contract extensions to its stars, recently giving new deals to Michael Le Vell (Kevin) and Sally Dynevor (Sally).
"The thought of Coronation Street without Sue and Audrey is not worth thinking about," a show source told The Sun. "Bosses are thrilled she's agreed to stay for another year.
"Audrey was rightly at the centre of the street last year with son Stephen unmasked as a serial killer before being killed himself.
"Audrey moving on will be a big part of the cobbles going forward."
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
