Coronation Street star Ben Price says that unlike Sarah and David, Nick is happy for Gail's new romance with Jesse.

Coronation Street star Ben Price has said that his character Nick is genuinely pleased to see his mum Gail (Helen Worth) find love with Jesse (John Thomson).

Jesse showed up on the cobbles earlier this month and rekindled a holiday romance with Gail - and after a whirlwind few weeks, they are now engaged to be married.

While Sarah (Tina O'Brien) and David (Jack P Shepherd) have been wary of the new man in their mother's life, Nick has taken a different view and has welcomed Jesse into the fold.

"He's a bit more live and let live - 'if you like him then fine'," said Price. "There's been a few over the years and I don't think we need to worry about Jesse just yet.

"Nick has always thought, especially after his dad and all the men that have followed, 'why can't my mum be happy?'

"Nick has never relied on his mum in the same way as David and Sarah, he's seen it much more that he's had to look after his mum. So Nick thinks 'go and live your life, it's alright, if he makes you happy then great'."

On Nick's views of Jesse, he added: "He's a bit of a clown, but compared with her other husbands then yeah he's alright.

"He's not nasty, he's not trying to rip her off, he might not be the best but Nick's dad wasn't the best. She seems happy and that's alright for Nick. Gail and Audrey have both picked not great men at times but Jesse seems okay."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
