Dame Maureen Lipman has lamented the phasing out of the word "actress" in favour of "actor".
The 76-year-old, who has been in the business since the '60s, was asked for her views on "woke culture" - including women's rights - in a new interview for Reader's Digest.
"I am an actress - not an actor," she replied. "And if somebody tries to take the word 'woman' away from me, I shall be very cross!"
She continued: "Yes, some of my views can be a little old-fashioned. But don't attack me for them.
"Consider my point of view. Demonstrate a little kindness. Be patient."
The Coronation Street star has just signed a new deal to continue playing no-nonsense Evelyn Plummer on the soap for at least another year.
