David Neilson has suggested that Roy Cropper could have left Coronation Street for good.
In shock scenes that aired last week, the street stalwart signed over his assets to his niece Nina (Mollie Gallagher) before departing the cobbles to work as a chef in South America.
Neilson has been part of the soap for more than 26 years and although his permanent exit has not previously been hinted at, the actor gave an enigmatic response when asked about his Corrie future.
"I'm 72, obviously," he told Inside Soap. "When Corrie aired Norris' funeral, we had a scene with the hearse pulling up – and because of Malcolm Hebden, I thought: 'I'm really sorry that I won't get to work with him again.'
"But there are two exits in this for me: one for the character and one for David. Hopefully they won't coincide – maybe they will.
"I know Roy leaving will get a reaction. It's a big part of your life and a big part of that popular culture. He will be remembered for a long while."
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
