A deceased Coronation Street character makes a surprise return to the soap as part of a nightmare sequence.

Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) made a shock return to Coronation Street from beyond the grave in tonight's episode.

The abusive husband of Yasmeen (Shelley King) died almost two years ago but came back briefly to terrorise his wife in a nightmare sequence.

As she slept on the sofa, Yasmeen imagined Stu (Bill Fellows) in her kitchen preparing chicken - but as he approached her menacingly, he transformed into Geoff.

"You stupid woman," Geoff spat at her. Referring to Stu, he continued: "He's a murderer, he's been sat right under your nose all this time.

"And the award for most gullible old fool goes to... Yasmeen Metcalfe!"

Yasmeen was then shaken out of her bad dream by grandson Zeedan (Qasim Akhtar) before she contemplated what to do about Stu.

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
