Ex-Brookside star Simon O'Brien has joined the cast of Coronation Street, the soap has announced.
The 56-year-old played Damon Grant on the Channel 4 soap from 1982 to 1987 and also appeared for a while in Grange Hill.
In an announcement on Twitter, the official Corrie account revealed that he will be playing a character called Frank Bardsley on the cobbles.
They also teased that he would be a new love interest for one of the street's residents, saying: "Could love be in the air for a lucky someone on The Street?"
The date of Frank's debut is unknown, although ITV's publicity image shows him standing in the Rovers with Jubilee bunting in the background, suggesting that he may appear for the first time early next month.
