Lucy Fallon has admitted that her decision to quit Coronation Street just before the coronavirus pandemic struck was "the worst possible decision".
The 27-year-old actress had played the fan-favourite character Bethany Platt - daughter of Sarah (Tina O'Brien) - since 2015 but decided to leave the soap in early 2020.
Bethany's final scenes aired in March 2020, just days before COVID shut down the global economy and severely limited the available opportunities for unattached actors.
Speaking to the BTS With podcast, Fallon said: "I left in January 2020, which was potentially the worst possible decision I could have ever made. We went into the full lockdown in the March.
"I feel like in a way it did me some favours, in that I could get away from that character and not have the pressure that I needed to be doing something, because nobody was doing anything.
"The worst question you can get asked when you aren't working is, 'What are you doing now? What are you doing next? What TV show are you going to be on now?', as if it just works like that.
"So even though lockdown was horrendous, I sort of enjoyed that time just not having to worry about the fact that people weren't going to ask me that question.
"But again, it killed me because I was on a high when I left Corrie and then lockdown sort of fizzled that out."
Fallon is thought to be returning to Corrie as Bethany later this year, with her first scenes back due to air just after Christmas.
