Roberta Kerr is reportedly in line to reprise her role as Wendy Crozier on Coronation Street some 33 years after her first appearance.
Wendy was responsible for one of the soap's most memorable storylines of yesteryear as she embarked upon an affair with Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) in 1989, culminating in his first marriage to Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) breaking down.
Ken walked out on Wendy the following year - but she returned to the cobbles in 2012, albeit briefly as she unsuccessfully attempted to rekindle their relationship.
According to The Sun, Wendy will be back on the street later this year and is set for a fierce showdown with Ken's adoptive daughter Tracy (Kate Ford), who's still angry at what she did to her mother.
"Wendy was run out of the cobbles by Ken ten years ago after she tried to rekindle their affair and she's stayed away," a show source told the newspaper.
"But this summer she will make a comeback as a social worker involved with another street resident and end up bumping into her old flame.
"Has Wendy changed or will she want to get her claws back into Ken?"
The insider added: "Deirdre might be gone, but Wendy will have to get through a furious Tracy if she wants Ken.
"Tracy's no shrinking violet and Wendy will walk right into her crosshairs."
Kerr's return is the third confirmed in as many weeks, following on from the news that both Spider Nugent (Martin Hancock) and Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) will soon be back on the show.
