Next week's Dancing On Ice final could be the show's last ever episode, according to a report.

Dancing On Ice could be axed by ITV after next week's final, according to a report.

The show - hosted by Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern - first aired on ITV in 2006 and ran for nine series before being dropped in 2014, but was revived four years later and has been a staple of ITV's winter schedules since.

Ratings have gradually tailed off in recent years, however, and The Mirror claims that the high production costs make a renewal for 2026 increasingly unlikely.

A source told the newspaper: "There are very real fears this is the end of the road for Dancing on Ice. It's had a good run for nearly 20 years and has a very loyal set of viewers who really love it but the sad truth is there's just not enough of them. We need bums on seats but the ratings have dropped to a point where it's difficult to justify the cost."

An ITV spokesperson denied that any decision on the show's future has been taken, saying: "The Dancing on Ice team is fully concentrating on the much anticipated series finale this coming Sunday and therefore no decision has been made."

The broadcaster said that the current series has averaged 3 million viewers per episode to date, including a contribution of 3.6m total streams via ITVX.
