Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies insists that he will not be returning for a third stint in charge.

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has ruled out taking control of the beloved sci-fi series for a third time.

The writer masterminded Who's comeback in 2005 before leaving in 2010, but then returned for a second stint at the helm in 2023.

Although no date has yet been revealed for his second departure, Davies admitted to former star David Tennant on his podcast that he "won't go back a third time".

In quotes reported by Gamesradar, he continued: "I'm not getting younger, darling. My god. But I will need to slow down at some point. No, that'll come."

Admitting that talks about his eventual replacement had already been held, he added: "Last time, we were so lucky last time it was Steven Moffat. That wasn't even a day's work, it was like, 'Right, off you go!'

"So yeah there's thinking about that, there's conversations about that, but it's hard. It's a tricky one. But they'd better exist."

The new series of Doctor Who begins on Saturday, April 12 on iPlayer and BBC One and via Disney+ in the rest of the world.
