Jinkx Monsoon has been announced a surprise casting for a "major" role in the next full series of Doctor Who.
After a series of special episodes later this year featuring the returns of David Tennant and Catherine Tate, Ncuti Gatwa will take over as The Doctor this Christmas and return for a full series in early 2024.
Millie Gibson will play the Time Lord's new companion Ruby Sunday, while others confirmed for roles include Anita Dobson, Aneurin Barnard, Jemma Redgrave and Michelle Greenidge.
The latest addition to the cast has now been revealed as Jinkx Monsoon, winner of season five of RuPaul's Drag Race and season seven of the All Stars spinoff.
"In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all," said showrunner Russell T Davies. "Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!"
Jinkx added: "I'm honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who! Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer - I can't wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there's room in the TARDIS for my luggage."
Filming on the new series, which will comprise a Christmas 2023 special and eight further episodes, has been underway since December.
