Freema Agyeman has been tipped to make a shock return to the Doctor Who universe as the main star of a new spinoff series.
The five-part spinoff has yet to be officially announced by the BBC but it is believed to be called The War Between The Land And The Sea and will feature the ancient race the Sea Devils.
Agyeman starred as Martha Jones, a companion to David Tennant's Tenth Doctor in the 2007 series who went on to have guest appearances in the 2008 series and the spinoff show Torchwood.
According to The Mirror, citing a post on the respected fansite Gallifrey Base, Agyeman will head up the new spinoff and appear alongside the newly-introduced UNIT team including Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave), Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford) and Shirley Bingham (Ruth Madeley).
The post in question said: "Martha Jones will be leading the series in a rural, present-day English town. And yes, the UNIT team are involved (Kate, Shirley & Mel etc.) The title isn't literal (as a lot of people have said recently), and it's 'quite distinctive' to previous spin-offs. The Sea Devils are in it, though."
The show's director is said to be Dylan Holmes Williams, who was responsible for the acclaimed episodes '73 Yards' and 'Dot and Bubble' from the most recent series.
Production notices have earmarked a September start date for filming, suggesting that the spinoff could air in late 2025.
