John Bishop has admitted that he considers himself "extremely lucky" to have bagged a part on Doctor Who.
The comedian has joined the cast of the long-running sci-fi show as a new companion, Dan Lewis, who will appear alongside Jodie Whittaker's Doctor and sidekick Yaz (Mandip Gill) on the next series.
Talking about how the part came about, he told Doctor Who Magazine: "It was very fortuitous. When it was originally discussed, I couldn't do it because I was going to be on tour. The dates clashed and I couldn't get out of the tour.
"But then I was forced out of the tour because of COVID situation and my shows were postponed.
"So I felt lucky, as much as anything else. I felt lucky, number one, to have been considered for it, and then extremely lucky that circumstances meant that I could do it."
Dan Lewis will be introduced to viewers in the first episode of the new series, which is due to begin on BBC One later in the year.
