Steven Moffat, writer of this year's Doctor Who Christmas special, has given some hints about what to expect from the episode.

In the episode, titled 'Joy To The World', Ncuti Gatwa's The Doctor is joined in the TARDIS by a character called Joy, played by Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan.

A recent trailer for the special shows The Doctor appearing at a series of bizarre locations during the 20th century before landing in what appears to be present-day London, where he encounters Joy.

Speaking to BBC South East, Moffat revealed: "I can tease something about the Christmas special. Imagine in the far, far future, imagine that a hotel chain got hold of the idea of time travel.

"What's the first thing a hotel chain would do if they had time travel? They'd realise they had an opportunity to sell all the unsold nights in their own hotels in history."

'Joy To The World' will air on BBC One, iPlayer and Disney+ on Christmas Day.
