EastEnders cast "apoplectic" over coronavirus rule break

Members of the EastEnders cast are said to be outraged after a first assistant director allegedly kept his coronavirus symptoms quiet before testing positive for the disease.

EastEnders cast members are said to be furious after a breach of coronavirus rules allegedly led to one of them testing positive for the disease.

The row began after a first assistant director, who has worked on the soap for 10 years, felt ill over the weekend before last and took a coronavirus test - but then showed up for work last Monday and Tuesday anyway before learning that he was positive for COVID-19.

According to The Sun, the AD then admitted to his behaviour and in the days that followed, an unnamed cast member also tested positive.

The newspaper says that the director has now been sacked, although it is unclear whether he will also face a police investigation for breaking rules and endangering the lives of others.

"The director has let everyone down. The show has worked so hard to get EastEnders back on TV, and he could have undone all that work," a source said.

"Senior actors were livid and felt let down. There was talk of a mutiny. He was given the boot, partly to assuage cast members."

Producers are thought to have ordered a deep clean of the set after the incident and have also been forced to change filming schedules.
