EastEnders will start filming new episodes again next month, the BBC's director of content Charlotte Moore has revealed.
Production on the soap was halted in mid-March as the coronavirus crisis escalated, and as it stands it will drop off the air at some point in the next month when the BBC runs out of new episodes.
New government guidelines earlier this week have paved the way for TV and film productions to resume, however, and Moore said that plans are in place to get EastEnders up and running again, albeit with some changes.
"We've been looking very carefully at how we can safely put some of our shows back into production, and I'm pleased to announce that we plan to begin filming again on both EastEnders and Top Gear by the end of next month," Moore wrote in The Telegraph. "We're also exploring ways to re-start filming on more dramas and other major BBC shows as soon as possible.
"Of course, we will be working within government guidelines. Crews will be strictly limited. Cast members will do their own hair and make-up. Social distancing measures will be in place."
ITV, meanwhile, has said that it is in "the final stages" of plans to resume filming on Coronation Street.
