Former EastEnders actor Max Bowden lands a role in new musical Midnight Cowboy.

Former EastEnders actor Max Bowden has landed one of the lead roles in new musical Midnight Cowboy.

The 30-year-old joined the BBC soap in 2019 as the latest actor to play Ben Mitchell but left last year as his character was imprisoned in the US for fraud.

Adapted from the 1965 novel and 1969 movie, Midnight Cowboy follows the story of a young man called Joe (Paul Jacob French) looking to escape his deadbeat past.

Heading to the big city of New York he meets a man in a similar situation, Ratso (Bowden), and teams up with him as they aim to achieve their dreams.

Writing on Instagram, Bowden said of the role: "Super excited to be bringing the world premier of Midnight Cowboy the musical to Southwark playhouse - playing the iconic role of Rico "Ratso" Rizzo, alongside an amazing cast. Buzzing for this one"

Midnight Cowboy plays at the Southwark Playhouse in London's Elephant & Castle from April 4 to May 17.
