The production manager on EastEnders has revealed that the soap's shiny new set is being troubled by defecating foxes.
The new £87m outdoor set was seen on screen for the first time last night - as a swooping aerial shot of Albert Square was followed up by a knowing comment from Sharon (Letitia Dean), who remarked that her new coat was "quality - it will last years!"
Production manager Rona McKendrick, who has been with the show for the last 30 years, said that she was pleased with the new set - in particular its brand new areas, although they are unfortunately being used as a toilet by local foxes.
"We've got a new back alley as it were - the back gardens," she told The Sun.
"Even the foxes like it because they're actually pooing on the grass. It's real fox poo. It's not stunt poo.
"It's a lovely new area - a road with garages. We can expand storylines and show different areas of Walford."
EastEnders now airs at the new time of 7.30pm Monday to Thursday on BBC One.
Nice touch at the start of @bbceastenders tonight as they use their new exterior set for the first time.
