Filming has started on the new exterior set for EastEnders at Elstree in Hertfordshire.
The news marks the end of a multiyear project - controversially costing around £86.7m - to rebuild Albert Square on a new site adjacent to the old set, which had been in use since the show began in 1985.
Confirming that filming on the new set began on Tuesday, an EastEnders spokesperson said that it would provide "improved HD for our audiences and enhanced filming options".
The lot is also significantly bigger than the previous set, with new areas and buildings allowing for additional on-screen locations.
The set will be seen on screen for the first time in episodes being broadcast later this spring.
