Former Emmerdale actor Peter Martin has died at the age of 81, it has been announced.
The star appeared in more than 600 episodes of the soap between 2001 and 2007 as Len Reynolds, who was written out by suffering a heart attack during the celebrations for the village's 500th birthday.
Martin rose to fame in the 1980s as the comedic face of building firm Jewson in a series of TV adverts before moving on to a variety of small-screen roles.
As well as Emmerdale, he is perhaps best known for comedy The Royle Family, starring as the family's shy neighbour Joe Carroll between 1998 and 2012.
Close friend Dave Shann confirmed the news of his death on Facebook, writing: "My friend, drinking partner, fishing buddy past away on Wednesday morning, very sad, many of you will know him from TV, RIP Peter Martin, we had some great laughs."
