Emmerdale's Jay Kontzle promises an "incredible" set of episodes marking the soap's 50th anniversary later this year.

Emmerdale star Jay Kontzle has promised viewers that the soap's upcoming 50th anniversary episodes will be "incredible".

Having launched in 1972, the Yorkshire-based soap will reach the milestone birthday this October - and producers have previously promised a "golden month" of special episodes.

Kontzle, who is approaching four years of playing Billy Fletcher, has suggested that at least one death may be part of the plans.

"It's going to be incredible," he told OK! magazine. "All I can say is it'll be a rollercoaster ride.

"It's a great place to work and I've loved being involved with things like Super Soap Week."

He continued: "My character always seems to be around death, which is a bit morbid, but I prefer those high-stakes scenes.

"People might not know this but we film nine to 11 scenes a day and it can be gruelling – but we get through it as a team."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
