Baddiel and Skinner to release "Three Lions on a Sleigh" for Qatar 2022

Baddiel and Skinner to release
David Baddiel and Frank Skinner are reportedly planning to release a festive-themed version of their England anthem 'Three Lions'.

David Baddiel and Frank Skinner are reportedly planning to re-release their England anthem 'Three Lions' to coincide with the World Cup this winter.

For the first time, the tournament is being staged in the winter rather than the summer, with Qatar playing host to the action in November and December - and the winner being crowned just one week before Christmas.

'Three Lions', a collaboration between the comedians and rock group Lightning Seeds, has become the de-facto anthem for England fans since its initial release to mark Euro 1996.

The song has been re-recorded several times since - for the World Cup in 1998, then again for the World Cup in 2010, and as recently as this summer to mark the England Women team's ultimately-triumphant participation in Euro 2022 - and now The Sun says that a new version is coming for World Cup 2022.

A source told the newspaper: "The Three Lions track has become synonymous with football, so the lads thought it would be really fun to get behind the first ever winter World Cup with a Christmas version.

"They've massively bigged up the Lionesses in the new song and had a laugh with some of the lyrics to include cheesy Christmas puns."

The video for the song, to be called 'Three Lions on a Sleigh', is expected to be filmed next month and is rumoured to feature a cameo from 1966 hero Sir Geoff Hurst.
