Marco Mengoni will represent Italy at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool after winning Sanremo 2023.
The five-night selection process, which featured 28 entries, concluded on Saturday night after a vote comprised equally of points from the voting public, the press and a selected jury of members of the public.
Mengoni, 34 - a winner of the Italian version of The X Factor - drew a final tally of 45.5% with his song 'Due Vite', easily beating the runner-up's share of 16.6%.
The singer previously won the competition 10 years ago in 2013 and went on to represent Italy at Eurovision with the song 'L'essenziale', which finished in seventh place.
As one of the so-called 'Big Five' countries, Italy will not have to navigate a semi-final and instead automatically progress to the final of the competition on May 13.
