Channel 4 chief executive Alex Mahon confirms plans to introduce a Scottish family to Gogglebox following criticism from MPs.

Channel 4 chief executive Alex Mahon has confirmed that "at least one" family from Scotland will be introduced to its flagship show Gogglebox from next year.

The move comes after some criticism from MPs earlier this year about the lack of representation on the show from participants living north of the border.

Writing to the Scottish Affairs Committee in Westminster, Mahon revealed that he has since instructed Gogglebox producers Studio Lambert to address the issue.

"Since I met with you we have agreed a separate budget with Studio Lambert for a dedicated casting team specifically tasked with finding a suitable Scottish family," he wrote.

"The casting period is already underway and will run up to Christmas. The ambition is to identify at least one Scottish family who will become part of the Gogglebox cast for the next series which will air in the New Year."

Committee chair Pete Wishart said: "I am... pleased to see a dedicated team tasked with this and look forward to seeing the successful family on our screens in the new series!"

Gogglebox's last Scottish family, the Manuels, exited the show in 2016 although they were living in Croydon, south of London, at the time.
