Former Hollyoaks actor Paul Danan dies at the age of 46.

Former Hollyoaks star Paul Danan has died at the age of 46, it was announced on Thursday.

The actor was one of the heartthrobs from the early days of the Channel 4 soap, playing bad boy Sol Patrick from 1997 to 2001.

He went on to take part in the original incarnation of Love Island, which featured only celebrities, in 2005 and 2006, appearing alongside the likes of Calum Best, Michael Greco, Abi Titmuss and Rebecca Loos.

Danan suffered with various addictions over the years, including drugs, cigarettes and more recently vapes, and by 2022 he revealed that he had entered rehab at least 17 times.

In a statement, his acting agents Independent Creative Management said: "It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of @pauldanan at just 46 years old.

"Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many.

"His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him.

"During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul's family, friends, and colleagues. No further comments will be made at this time."

A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said: "Officers attended a property in Brislington, Bristol, at around 5.20pm yesterday (Wednesday 15 January) where sadly a man in his 40s was declared deceased by paramedics.

"His family have been notified and our thoughts are with them. They have asked for people to respect their privacy during this incredibly difficult time.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are preparing a file for the coroner."

Best, who formed a firm friendship with Danan after Love Island, said: "Paul was one of the funniest, kindest, and most real people I've ever known - truly a creative genius too.

"Life wasn't always easy for him, but he faced it with such heart and courage, and that inspired so many of us.

"We shared so many laughs and unforgettable moments. My heart goes out to his loved ones. Rest easy, brother."

Meanwhile, Greco posted: "In this day and age of falsities and fake people, he was a genuine and caring man who just wanted to please everyone."

Danan is survived by his nine-year-old son DeNiro.
