Hollyoaks star Ashling O'Shea has predicted tough times ahead for her character Nadira when she loses her former love interest Juliet (Niamh Blackshaw) to cancer.
After arriving in the village in early 2022, Nadira quickly became involved with Juliet - eventually leading to her coming out and enjoying a brief romance with Juliet.
Juliet has since reunited with original love Peri (Ruby O'Donnell) but has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and in scenes airing on the soap this week, Nadira is seen struggling to come to terms with her ex's impending death.
"It will break her heart," said O'Shea. "Nadira's mother died of cancer and now the love of her life (so far) is going to die too.
"This disease has taken two of the most important women in her life, the woman who gave her life and the woman who encouraged her to live a new, freer life in her queerness.
"Nadira is incredibly respectful of family so knows her place is not in the heart of everything, but that also means she will feel alone in the grief and feel like she doesn't have a right to feel it.
"I think this will be something that hurts her for the rest of her life. You never forget your first love."
Hollyoaks continues weekdays on Channel 4 and E4.
