Hollyoaks character Justin Burton - played by Chris Fountain until 2009 - is killed off in an off-screen storyline.

One of Hollyoaks' most memorable characters has been killed off in an off-screen storyline.

Justin Burton, played by Chris Fountain, appeared on the soap between 2003 and 2009 and was involved in a controversial plot that saw him have an affair with his English teacher Becca (Ali Bastian).

Their relationship resulted in them having a child, Charlie Dean (Charlie Behan), who was taken in by Becca's sister Nancy (Jessica Fox) after Becca was murdered.

Justin fled the village 14 years ago when his son was still a toddler, but Charlie - now aged 16 - recently began looking into his father's whereabouts.

In Tuesday's episode, the teen was left heartbroken when a social media search revealed that Justin died in a car crash last October.

Actor Fountain, who went on to appear on Coronation Street after his time on Hollyoaks, has yet to comment publicly on the development with his character.
