Former Doctors star Marian McLoughlin has joined the cast of Hollyoaks, taking over the role of Sue Morgan.
The character - mother of Luke (Gary Lucy) - was last seen on the show in October 2002 but will return to the village next week to try to make amends with her son.
Sue's arrival comes with some heart-breaking news, however, while Luke must also tell his estranged mother about his dementia diagnosis.
"It's always a bit like your first day at school. You would think after 40 years of acting I would be used to it, but on Hollyoaks, from the moment I arrived, I was made to feel so welcome," said McLoughlin, who replaces original actress Eve White as Sue.
"I love playing Sue. She doesn't have a filter and thinks she can say whatever she likes. She's sort of passive aggressive, she smiles at you, but then there is a real sting in the tail.
"It is a treat playing Luke's mum. She's on a mission for Luke to be happy - at least, her vision of what that should be.
"She has come back to make peace with her son, for her neglectful mothering in the past.
"I'm so pleased to be filming alongside Gary - I couldn't have wished for a more caring and generous actor to work with, and one with a great sense of humour too."
Sue's return will air in E4's first-look episode next Monday at 7pm.
