The new series of Line of Duty will be filmed later this year, sources tell Media Mole.

A new series of Line of Duty is to be filmed later this year, show sources have told Media Mole.

The hugely-popular police drama, which follows an anti-corruption unit in the police force, ran for six series and peaked with audiences of 16 million.

The most recent series concluded in 2021 and appeared to bring an end to the long-running background storyline by revealing the fourth and final member of the 'H' group of senior corrupt police officers.

The three main stars - Adrian Dunbar (Ted Hastings), Martin Compston (Steve Arnott) and Vicky McClure (Kate Fleming) - are all believed to have signed on for the new run of episodes, which will again be overseen by creator Jed Mercurio.

Christina Chong, who played DI Nicola Rogerson in series six, recently suggested that she had been approached about the new series, although the extent of her involvement is unknown.

A production insider told us: "The news has yet to be confirmed by the BBC, but series seven is now in the pre-production phase, with scripts being finalised and casting for the supporting roles soon getting underway.

"The plan at the moment is for filming to begin in Northern Ireland in December, with the aim of getting the show back on screens later in 2026."

A BBC spokesperson declined to comment.
