Jamie Carragher claims Strictly Come Dancing approach

Jamie Carragher claims that he has been approached to appear on the upcoming new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed that he has been approached to appear on this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC ballroom series has a history of featuring former footballers as contestants, with Peter Shilton, Robbie Savage, John Barnes and Peter Schmeichel all having competed in recent years.

Speaking on The Football Show, Carragher, 42, said: "I'm doing Strictly. I'll have a go. After a few bevvies down me. I'll have a go."

The Sky Sports pundit then joked: "We were a bit worried about the financial implications on the Premier League and I thought I was going to lose out on a bit of dough. So I took the opportunity to go on Strictly and nick a few quid."

Other rumoured names in the frame for this year's show, which is due to begin in September, include US drag queen RuPaul Charles, Our Girl actress Michelle Keegan and former England cricketer Jonathan Agnew.
