Love Island 2020 officially cancelled by ITV

ITV confirm that Love Island has been cancelled this summer due to the coronavirus pandemic.

ITV have announced that this year's summer series of Love Island has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The reality series, which is filmed in Mallorca, was due to return to ITV2 next month - and although producers had looked at a number of measures, including filming in the UK and delaying by several months, the severity of the disease has led to the decision to postpone the show until 2021.

Kevin Lygo, ITV's director of television, said: "We have tried every which way to make Love Island this summer but logistically it's just not possible to produce it in a way that safeguards the wellbeing of everyone involved and that for us is the priority.

"In normal circumstances we would be preparing very soon to travel out to the location in Mallorca to get the villa ready but clearly that's now out of the question.

"We are very sorry for fans of the show but making it safely is our prime concern and Love Island will be back stronger than ever in 2021. In the meantime Love Island fans can still enjoy all six series of Love Island on BritBox."

ITV2 was already due to air another winter version of the series in January 2021, in addition to the Summer 2021 series, and the broadcaster has yet to confirm if the news means that a third series will now air next year.
