E4 explains its decision to seemingly "skip" season seven of Married At First Sight Australia.

E4 has explained its decision to seemingly 'skip' a season of Married At First Sight Australia.

A new season of the hugely-popular dating show launched on E4 last night, but viewers were confused to learn that the channel was showing season eight instead of season seven.

Earlier this year the channel broadcast season six, with the expectation that season seven would follow on in due course, but instead E4 has decided to jump forward to season eight, which aired down under between February and April this year.

A spokesperson told The Sun: "Married at First Sight Australia is a hugely popular series on E4 and fans will get to see the latest series' sooner after their Australian premiere, as we catch up with the Australian broadcast schedule with series 8, followed by series 9 next year."

E4 is still thought to have the UK rights to season seven and is likely to broadcast it at some point in the future.
