Marvel's Agents of SHIELD could be set for a major crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in its final season.
The spinoff series has had several tie-ins with the MCU over its seven seasons, with several big-screen characters making guest appearances and episodes dealing with the aftermath or build-up to events in the movies.
With the final season now airing, there has been much speculation that there could be a more epic MCU crossover and creator Jed Whedon appeared to hint at that prospect in an interview with Deadline.
"We're going to bump into something," he said, with showrunner Jeffrey Bell adding: "Something will definitely happen."
With the advent of Disney+, which houses all of the MCU films, there has been speculation that SHIELD could get a new lease of life on the streaming service in some form.
"Those issues are way above our pay grade," said Bell. "With the new Disney+ and with all the restructuring that Disney is doing with ABC and Marvel, those kinds of questions really are above what we have any say in."
The final season began in the US on Wednesday and is expected to premiere on E4 next month.
