Amazon looking to launch James Bond TV series?
Amazon is reportedly hopeful of expanding the James Bond franchise with a series of TV spinoffs.

Amazon is reportedly looking to expand the James Bond franchise beyond big-screen movies and launch TV spinoff shows.

The streaming and retail giant is currently in the process of acquiring MGM Studios, which has distribution rights to the Bond series, in a deal worth around £7 billion.

According to The Sun, Amazon is already working on plans to exploit the brand but is meeting resistance from Bond producers Eon Productions.

"It's very early days but there are ideas being considered including looking at prequels based on Charlie Higson's book series Young Bond," a source told the newspaper.

"These are set when the character is at Eton. There are even thoughts about whether other characters could appear elsewhere, but Eon are dead against it.

"They want to keep it purely as blockbuster cinema, which already makes huge amounts of money. Yet spinoffs could make it even more lucrative.

"Once the takeover deal goes through, those conversations will pick up pace - though it's clear Eon's executives aren't interested."

The most recent Bond movie, No Time To Die, opened in September and has grossed more than $765m (£576m) worldwide to date.
