Armie Hammer wants 10-year wait for Call Me By Your Name 2

Armie Hammer suggests that it should be another 10 years before the Call Me By Your Name sequel is made.

Armie Hammer has expressed a preference for a lengthy break before the Call Me By Your Name sequel is made.

The coming-of-age movie, which depicted a gay love story between Hammer's character Oliver and Timothee Chalamet's Elio, was a critical success upon its release in 2017 and a follow-up movie has already been confirmed.

The project remains in the early stages of development but Hammer, 34, believes that it would be better served being left until he and Chalamet - 10 years his junior - are older.

"It needs room to breathe," Hammer said on a press tour for his new Netflix movie Rebecca.

"So many people are emotionally invested in the first Call Me By Your Name, that if you release a second one now, no matter what, I feel like you're setting yourself up for failure."

Referencing Chalamet's youthful looks, he joked: "If you give us time, like the story is supposed to happen, if you give us that time and I can come back when I'm in my 40s and Timmy is like 23, then we can do it again then."

Luca Guadagnino, director of the first movie, is currently believed to be working on a script for the sequel.
