Josh O'Connor reportedly emerges as the favourite to replace Daniel Craig in the James Bond franchise.

Josh O'Connor has reportedly emerged as the new favourite to take over from Daniel Craig in the James Bond franchise.

Following the events of 2021's No Time To Die, there has been a vacancy in the 007 role for the next tranche of movies, the first of which will be released in 2026 at the earliest.

Kick-Ass and Avengers star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been heavily linked with the part in recent months, while other names in the frame have included Gladiator II's Paul Mescal, Saltburn's Jacob Elordi and Happy Valley's James Norton.

According to Hello!, however, the new favourite is 34-year-old O'Connor, known for films including Challengers, God's Own Country and Netflix drama The Crown.

The newspaper says that the actor was 'handpicked' by Bond producer Barbara Broccoli because he "has balanced the fine line between being recognisable, yet ambiguous" and has "charisma, charm, and ability to deliver sharp one-liners effortlessly".

A final decision and official announcement of the new Bond is expected some time in the next few months.
