Phoebe Waller-Bridge is cast opposite Harrison Ford in the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge will appear opposite Harrison Ford in the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie, it has been announced.

The Fleabag star is expected to play the female lead in the new instalment of the franchise, which will arrive 41 years after first movie Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Steven Spielberg's directing role will be taken up by James Mangold, although the movie legend will remain involved as a producer, while John Williams will return to oversee the score.

"I'm thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers," said Mangold, known for Girl, Interrupted, The Wolverine and Ford v Ferrari.

"When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can't help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself."

Filming on the movie is expected to begin this summer ahead of a planned release on July 29, 2022.
