New character posters reveal that Shemar Moore will be back as Randall Handel in Sonic The Hedgehog 3.

Shemar Moore will reprise his role as Randall Handel in Sonic The Hedgehog 3, it has emerged.

The highly-anticipated sequel - due out next month - sees Sonic (Ben Schwartz) re-team with Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and a newly-benevolent Knuckles (Idris Elba) in a surprising alliance with Dr Robotnik (Jim Carrey) to save the planet from the threat caused by Shadow (Keanu Reeves).

Previously known to be returning are James Marsden as Tom, Tika Sumpter as his wife Maddie, Natasha Rothwell as Maddie's sister Rachel and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone - and now newly-released character posters have confirmed that Moore is also on the cast.

First appearing in Sonic 2, Randall was ultimately exposed as a GUN agent who had been assigned to marry Rachel in order to capture Sonic, but after succeeding in doing so during his wedding, he realised that he genuinely loved Rachel and they began a real relationship.

Randall's role in the new movie is unclear, although the heavy involvement of GUN in the plot suggests that he could be required to work with Sonic and co as part of the mission to hunt down Shadow.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is due for release on December 20.
