Third Dune movie 'to be filmed a year earlier than expected'
The third Dune movie will reportedly be filmed this summer, a year ahead of schedule.

The third Dune movie will reportedly be filmed this summer, a year earlier than originally planned.

The film - titled Dune: Messiah - will mark director Denis Villeneuve's final outing with the franchise, having previously outlined his intention to hand over the reins after the next instalment.

Messiah is set 12 years after the events of the second film, with Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) now having ruled as Emperor for a decade. However his unchecked power heading up an army of Fremen leads to the deaths of billions of people.

According to Deadline, Villeneuve had intended to start shooting next year but rumours at last weekend's BAFTA Film Awards suggested that he is now anticipating a June start date.

The availability of Zendaya - aka Chani - for the project remains uncertain as the actress already has a busy 2025, with a fourth Spider-Man film, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and the third season of Euphoria all on her filming schedule.

Dune: Messiah has a tentative release date of December 18, 2026.
