Britney Spears denies reports that she is working on a new album, claiming that she will "never" return to the frontline of the music industry.

Britney Spears has denied reports that she is working on new music, claiming that she will "never" return to the frontline of the music industry.

The singer, 42, had been rumoured to be developing her 10th studio album for release later this year - some eight years after her last record came out.

Reports had suggested that she had even tapped up singer-songwriters, including Charli XCX and Julia Michaels, to pen potential new tracks for the album, but now she has angrily hit out at the claims in a post on Instagram.

She told followers: "Just so we're clear most of the news is trash!!!

"They keep saying I'm turning to random people to do a new album... I will never return to the music industry!!!"

Since being released from her notorious conservatorship arrangement in late 2021, Spears has released two collaborative singles - a version of 'Hold Me Closer' with Sir Elton John and will.i.am team-up 'Mind Your Business'.
